Wireless headphones add a delay, and your own sense of timing has a lean of its own. In a game scored in milliseconds, both push your taps off the beat. Here is how Acrobeat measures that offset and hands it back to you, corrected.

Acrobeat asks you to reproduce a gap you hear, and it grades you down to the millisecond. That precision is the whole appeal, but it has a cost: anything that sits between the sound and your finger now counts. Two things usually do. One is your gear. The other is you. The good news is that both show up as the same thing, a steady offset, and a steady offset is exactly what you can cancel.

Where the delay comes from

There are two sources, and they stack.

Put those two numbers together and the problem is plain. The delay on a pair of wireless buds can be ten times wider than the entire window you are aiming for near the top of the climb.

Why a steady delay throws you off

Here is the subtle part. Acrobeat measures your hold from your own two taps, finger down to finger up, not from the audio. So a constant delay does not corrupt the gap itself: both beeps arrive equally late, and the gap between them is unchanged. In theory you could ignore it.

In practice you do not, because you listen to your own play. You press, you hear the beep that confirms it a beat late, and you time the rest from that. Do that on a 150 ms delay and you let go 150 ms after you should have, every single time. The cue felt fine. You just landed late, consistently, by the size of the delay. Consistent is the word that saves you: a miss that is the same every time is a miss you can subtract back out.

The fix: a sync offset

In settings there is a control called sync. It is a single number, in milliseconds, that the game subtracts from every hold before it scores you. Set it to match your delay and a perfectly timed land reads as one again. There are two ways to dial it in.

calibrate by ear

  1. Put your headphones on and tap start. A steady beat begins.
  2. Tap the pad in time with each beep, the way you would tap along to a metronome.
  3. It watches the gap between each beep and your tap, throws out the warm-up and any stray taps, and takes the trimmed average of the rest. That number becomes your offset.

Prefer to do it by hand? The same screen has a slider with + and buttons that step in 5 ms increments, so you can nudge it a hair either way until your lands feel honest. Whichever way you set it, it applies everywhere, free climb and the daily alike, so your one real attempt at the daily is judged on your timing, not your hardware.

Not just headphones

The offset does not care why you are off, only that you are off by the same amount each time. That is why this is not only a headphones fix. If you play on a wired setup with almost no hardware delay but you consistently anticipate the beat, calibrate will read that as a small lead and let you trim it the other way, into the negative. The result is the same: the game stops scoring your gear and your habits, and starts scoring the thing you actually came to train, your sense of an interval.

Two honest limits. It corrects a steady offset, not jitter: if your delay wobbles around from beep to beep, no single number can chase it, and wired or the speaker will always be steadier. And it does not make the game easier. The offset re-centers where your neutral sits; it never widens the landing window. You still have to hear the gap and reproduce it. We just made sure that when you do, the score agrees.
